“The longer I fish and the more I read the older writers and study the sport’s history, the more I see fly fishing as a huge, multigenerational conversation.”
Great quote. Schullery is right. Interesting how a rather solitary and contemplative sport creates such a strong sense of community. Reading the older writers you get the "I feel that way too" sense that you get from powerful writing. It creates a bond almost like the experience of fishing together. Someone said that some of the best fishing trips he takes are in books...all part of the conversation.
