Naknek River Camp 2019 - another great week

We had a great week at the Naknek River Camp. This year we went up at the end of September. Lot of rainbows in the 24-32" range. I want the thank Jim and Phyllis and the staff and guides for all their support. I also want to thank David, Tom, Terry, Billy Tom and Regan. I look forward to heading back hopefully next year. Sept salt water clinic

We had a good group for our September salt water clinic. Weather was a bit of a challenge, but it made teaching casting with various winds a lot easier. Overall we focus on casting fundamentals, hauls and various fishing salt fishing situation and techniques. It was terrific teaching with Ray and Michael and we will be putting this clinic on the 2020 schedule.

Rescheduled two handed clinic Nov 9

Because of Hurricane Dorian, we have rescheduled our two handed clinic to November 9.

Estancia Las Buitreras - January 11-18, 2020 - is sold out

Very happy to report our January 11-18 return to Estancia las Buitreras is sold out. We have a great group going down this year. I love January on the Rio Gallegos.

Our two handed clinic info. We still have a few openings.

RI Spey will be holding a Spey 2.0 casting class on September 7, in Narragansett, RI on the Narrow River beginning at 8:30am and ending about 3pm. This class is for intermediate spey casters and will feature advanced spey casting techniques. 

Spey 2.0 will focus on three casts: Switch, Single Spey, and Snake-roll casts that include air-born (touch-n-go) anchors, and are ideal for Scandinavian style shooting heads, long leaders and small ('ish) flies. Throughout the day we will expand on these lively (and lovely) casts using dominant and non-dominant top hands, allowing us to deal with wind and sides of river (current).

Currently the Spey 2.0 class has seven registered students and will be limited to ten, our maximum. The fee for these classes is $200 for seven hours of instruction, and includes lunch. Equipment will be provided.

Master Casting Instructor

Craig is a licensed guide in NY and PA. He enjoys the dichotomy between upstate and city - teaching year round, in NY's Central Park and on Catskill waters. He is a National tournament medal winner with the American Casting Association, and a Pennsylvania Fly Casting champion and is an instructor at the Wulff School of Fly Fishing. Recently he has been spending time abroad, interviewing fish in Argentina, Kiribati and Greenland. Craig is on the HMH Vise Pro team, and on Industry Guide programs of several other fine gear manufacturers.

Really looking forward to our two handed clinic this Saturday. Thrilled to be teaching with Craig and Jim and we are working with 11 anglers. Looks like good weather and we are sold out. We still have openings for our September clinic.

Aug 3 Two handed clinic Narragansett RI - sold out

The RI Spey 1.0 Introductory casting class is scheduled for August 3rd in Narragansett. This class was originally scheduled for April but was postponed due to inclement weather. We have fully subscribed this class with ten casters. Instructors will be John Bilotta and Craig Buckbee, both very experienced two handed fly casters and instructors.

Madison CT Salt water fly fishing clinic July 20

Despite one of the hottest days this summer, our salt water fly fishing clinic in Madison was a success. Thanks to instructors Ray and Michael for all your help. We had five anglers and covered a ton of material throughout the day -  The program focused on casting - improving loops and double hauls - and a variety of saltwater fishing techniques. This is a clinic we will run again, I hope you will consider joining us.

South Shore Fly Casters two handed clinic

From our two handed casting clinic in mid July with the South Shore Fly Casters in Weymouth, MA.  Even with high summer temperatures, we managed to cover a lot of two handed material and most importantly had a terrific time. I am looking forward to our next casting get together. 

July 20 Saltwater Casting Clinic Madison CT

Join me and several certified instructors for a day working on your saltwater casting techniques. We will focus on loops, hauls, casting in the wind and improving distance.

South Shore Fly Casters clinic July 13 update

I have had a couple enquiries about this weekend's MA two handed clinic for the South Shore Fly Casters. We are sold out, but hope to hold another class in Sept.

Santa Cruz and Rio Gallegos rivers Argentina -April 2019

The Los Plateados crew April 2019

We had a great week in Argentina, but unfortunately high water blew us off two terrific rivers.

 We started on the Santa Cruz looking for steelhead and hooked several the first afternoon, but then it poured, the water came up and got super muddy.

We moved to the Rio  Gallegos to try and swing for sea run brown, but it was also a chocolate mess.

All that said, it was a great week with Tom, Louie, Edgardo and Marcelo and a huge thanks to Claudio, Pollo, Juan Manuel and Thomas for working so hard to try and put us on fish.

We will be back to Los Plateados.

Costa de Cocos March 2019

What a wonderful piece of paradise.

It was wonderful to be back at Costa de Cocos in Xcalak, Mexico with a small group of anglers.
I have been going down here for nearly 15 years and the fishery gets better and better. We saw more permit, and some very good size ones, than I have ever seen in this area.  A father and son we shared the lodge with landed a couple of nice permit.

Some very nice bonesfish came to hand.

I look forward to our next trip. Thanks to Dave, Ilana, Nolan and all the guides and staff.

Estancia Las Buitreras Feb 2019

Just catching up on one of my favorite two handed trips. We had a great time in Argentina at Estancia las Buitreras in mid February.  Water conditions were good most of the week, although we had a couple of high wind days. We had a nice group of guys from Europe and the States and landed some nice sea runs. The lodge and staff are wonderful. I highly recommend Estancia las Buitreras. I will be back in 2020, hosting another week next Jan 11-18th.

Two handed clinic Torres del Paine, Chile Feb 17 2019

 Great Trip to Torres del Paine in Chile. I taught a two handed clinic on the Rio Serrano and then got to explore the area and fish for kings and browns. Looking forward to going back next years and doing more with the terrific team at Hotel del Paine. Thanks Cesar for all your support.
